One of SAR’s raucus heavy shunters switchers, S1 class 0-8-0 No. 3823, on a pick-up trip working near Springs East Rand passes through a stand of Blue Gum Eucalyptus trees in 1969. It had been built by the North British Locomotive Company under Hyde Park, Glasgow, works number 27283/1954.
